TELECOMMUNICATIONS LAW COURSE David Irwin teaches a Telecommunications Law Course in the Institute for Communications Law Studies at the Columbus School of Law, Catholic University of America. David has been teaching at Catholic since 1985. A number of the Firm's lawyers are his former students. For the past couple of years, his course has been offered at Florida State University ("FSU") Law School via a live, interactive video link between Catholic's Law School and the FSU Law School. The course is augmented by a customized web page over The West Education Network ("TWEN"). (At the request of West Publishing, David has written an article about the benefits of utilizing state-of-the-art telecommunications technology and TWEN in a law school environment.) David Irwin has also taught this course at Howard University. The course has been revised so that it is now a two semester, two credit hour course, instead of the three credit hour one semester course that has previously been offered. The new title for the course is: "Telecommunications Regulation and Core Technologies". The first semester is a "survey" course of all manner of electronic communication including broadcast radio and TV, satellite radio and TV, internet radio, cable, telecommunications and internet VOIP and data/information services. He will be team-teaching with Dr. Ashim Roy who is integrating engineering for non-engineers/technology for non-technologists for all of the technologies supporting the various communications services. The first semester is open to both CLI students and to the general student body. The second semester is restricted to CLI students and is strictly law, policies and issues in Telecom post the 96 Act. It also is team-taught with Dr. Roy, who will integrate a major wireless component. As has been the case for the past two years, the course will originate at Catholic University and be provided to law and graduate students at other Universities via a live, interactive link.
